Wireless Access Networks: An Evolution

In this lecture, Professor Tho Le-Ngoc will provide a brief overview of the evolution of wireless access communications networks, from early human-type centric communications through various generations to recent machine-type oriented communications and future connected intelligence. He will introduce various technological advances in large-scale antenna structures, intelligent signal processing, medium-access, dynamic resource allocation and agile networking. These technological advances enable cost-effective, spectrally-efficient, reliable and continuous communications in challenging dense or ultra-dense broadband wireless access networks and support the exponential growth of and demands for wireless traffic and connectivity in critical application domains including Internet of Things (IoT), intelligence transportations, health-care, energy, smart-city and many other industrial sectors.
Professor Tho Le-Ngoc
Professor Tho Le-Ngoc is a Distinguished James McGill Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of McGill University. He is a Senior Member of the Ordre des Ingénieur du Quebec, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), and the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). He is a recipient of the 2004 Canadian Award in Telecommunications Research, the IEEE Canada Fessenden Award 2005, and the 2013 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
