Carbon Pricing Alone Can’t Meet Canada’s GHG Emission Reduction Targets

The Conference Board of Canada – September 6, 2017

Carbon pricing will help Canada reduce emissions but the reductions will fall short of the government’s goal of a 30 per cent reduction from 2005 levels by 2030, according to a joint report by The Conference Board of Canada and The Canadian Academy of Engineering. Trillions of dollars in investment spending on clean energy infrastructure and significant changes to the way Canadians consume energy will be needed to achieve deep emission reductions.

Baining Guo Named Microsoft Distinguished Scientist

Baining Guo, FCAE, is a world-renowned researcher in computer graphics. He joined Microsoft Research Asia in its early days and has been a key leader of the lab’s multimedia efforts covering graphics, vision, and video technologies. His contributions in these areas have been instrumental in establishing MSRA as a world-class research lab. His team has made important contributions to Microsoft’s products and services, including Windows, Xbox, Azure, Bing, OneDrive, and Cognitive Services. He is a fellow of IEEE, ACM, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Baining got his PhD from Cornell and worked in academia as well as Silicon Valley (Intel Labs) before joining Microsoft in 1999.
