Request from Engineers Canada for volunteers

Engineers Canada is looking for a selection of members from the Canadian Academy of Engineering to assist with our Framework for Regulation project. The Framework is a set of aspirational elements that form the baseline for engineering regulators.

Prior to finalizing the elements we are seeking feedback from the profession. Your assistance is needed to review several draft elements.

At this time, we have approximately 6 elements that we would like to submit for expert review. Each element is approximately 1-2 pages in length and contains a short note indicating what we are seeking from the reviewers.

In the current bundle of elements, the topics include:

Authentication of professional engineering documents (Seal)
Independent review of structural design
Selection of discipline committee members from the profession
Uniformity and harmonization
Engineer-in-training – Program design
Engineer-in-training – Program communications

We are looking to establish an ad hoc committee of 3-6 people who will be willing to read through the elements over the next 30 days and make their notes or observations. This will be followed up by a 2-hour teleconference where we will spend about 20 minutes discussing each of them.

It would be very helpful to receive the names and contact information of several volunteers who may be willing to contribute. Our plan is to follow up with an invitation to join a virtual collaboration space in order to 1) receive MS.WORD versions of the elements, 2) provide online comments of the documents and 3) participate in teleconference to discuss the comments.

The total estimated time commitment is:

Six hours to read and consider the elements and make online comments
+ two hours to discuss the elements during a teleconference
+ one hour of email traffic. =
Nine hours of total commitment

If you are able to contribute please contact Kevin Goheen kgoheen@cae-acg.ca
