CAE News for the week of 16 July

On a weekly basis, the CAE compiles news of interest to the organization and its members, and makes it publicly available on our website. The CAE works to highlight emerging issues in which engineering has a role as well as promote recognition of engineering excellence and innovation.

Fellow becomes Vice Chief of Defence Staff

Lieutenant-General Paul Wynnyk, FCAE, will assume the duties of Vice Chief of the Defence Staff:

“Today on Parliament Hill, Lieutenant-General Jean-Marc Lanthier assumed his new position as Commander Canadian Army from Lieutenant-General Paul Wynnyk. The ceremony was presided over by General Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff.

Before his appointment as Commander Canadian Army, Lieutenant-General Lanthier was the Chief of Programme. Lieutenant-General Wynnyk will assume the duties of Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.”

Biomass accounting

President Eddy Isaacs, FCAE, writes that biomass is not carbon neutral and that demand will drop when the GHG accounting is fixed. For more information, click here.

Nano Society Honours

ACS Nano editors Paul Weiss, FCAE, and Ali Khademhosseini, FCAE, were honoured by the NANOSMAT Society, and they spoke with the journal about nanoscience and nanotechnology research, their chosen career paths, providing advice for young chemists. For more information, click here.

Forensic Engineering Expert Comments

SNAME Medal

Congratulations to Claude Daley, FCAE, for winning the 2018 K.S. Davidson Medal. The award was established in 1959 by SNAME for “Outstanding Scientific Accomplishment in Ship Research” and is awarded no more than biannually. For more information, click here.
